Harrisburg, PA -- Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn today announced the appointment of Layne Nolan as the manager of
Blue Knob State Park in Bedford County.
“Layne’s familiarity with the area and outgoing spirit make her a wonderful fit for Blue Knob,” Dunn said. “We are confident in her leadership capabilities and look forward to seeing the impact she has at the park for many years to come.”
Nolan assumed operations of Blue Knob in May, overseeing the 6,128-acre park, which offers year-round outdoor recreation opportunities from swimming to skiing.
A native of nearby Portage, Pennsylvania, Nolan said managing Blue Knob has special meaning.
“I grew up 15 minutes from the park and visited a lot growing up, so this is definitely a dream job,” Nolan said. “The more I get to know about this park, the more I love it, and I am excited for the opportunity to work with staff and interact with visitors from all over the world."
Nolan said that despite her familiarity with the park, she is learning new things about the park and the many opportunities for trails, recreation, camping, and learning about Pennsylvania history.
Hiking and fishing are among Nolan’s favorite outdoor activities, and she added that she plans to further explore the terrific trail system at Blue Knob.
Nolan earned a degree in tourism management and park and recreation management from California University of Pennsylvania.
She worked as a travel agent for four years prior joining DCNR as a ranger working at Shawnee and Blue Knob State Parks.
Nolan’s managerial experience includes overseeing operations at Mt. Pisgah State Park prior to being appointed at Blue Knob.
