Harrisburg, PA -- Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn today announced the appointment of Brittany Perdos to manage
Raccoon Creek State Park in Beaver County.
“Brittany’s hardworking nature and persistence have been tremendous asset to DCNR and we are eager to see that in action at Raccoon Creek,”
Dunn said. “I am excited for the presence she will bring to the park and look forward to seeing her impact at the park going forward.”
Perdos assumed management duties at Raccoon Creek in October. The park is one of Pennsylvania’s largest and most visited state parks.
It began as a Recreational Demonstration Area operated by the National Park Service in the 1930s during the
Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) era.
The park spans 7,572 acres and features the beautiful 101-acre Raccoon Lake. Facilities are a mix of modern and rustic with group camps from the CCC era.
“I am beyond excited to have this opportunity to manage at such a great park,”
Perdos said. “The recreational opportunities and rich history are incredible here at Raccoon Creek, and I hope to share this special place with visitors, old and new alike.”
Perdos is a native of Cadogan in Armstrong County. Her passion for the outdoors led her to pursue a degree in park and resource management from Slippery Rock University. She noted that she always wanted to have a career in state parks despite there being none in her home county.
Following her graduation from Slippery Rock, Perdos worked at Penn United for seven years, unsuccessfully applying to be a part DCNR’s park manager trainee program twice.
Pardos credits a neighbor for encouraging her to apply for the manager trainee program for a third time in 2022. She was subsequently selected to and trained in the western region of Pennsylvania state parks, prior to being assigned to Raccoon Creek as an assistant manager.
Perdos’ family includes her partner, Theresa, and their cat, Reverend. She enjoys spending her free time hunting and fishing, adding that she enjoys teaching her godchildren how to fish.
