Harrisburg, PA – Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn announced the appointment of Corey Shannon to serve as the manager for Washington Crossing Historic Park in Bucks County.
“Corey's thoughtfulness, attention to detail, and commitment to getting the job done make him a perfect fit for Washington Crossing," Dunn said. “We look forward to seeing his leadership in action as we prepare to celebrate the 250th anniversary of this nation and for years to come."
Shannon officially began overseeing operations of the 500-acre park in May. Washington Crossing Historic Park preserves the site of George Washington's dramatic boat crossing of the Delaware River during the American Revolution and is a National Historic Landmark.
The Upper Section of the park has historic buildings, walking paths, picnic pavilions, fishing, and historical and environmental education programs. The Lower Section of the park has historic buildings, walking paths, picnicking, picnic pavilions, fishing, non-motorized boat launching, outdoor recreation programs, historical and environmental education programs, and hosts special events and re-enactments.
The 125-foot Bowman's Hill Tower is located in the Upper Section off of Lurgan Road in the park and provides a fabulous view of the Delaware River Valley. An entry fee is charged. The park is also adjacent to beautiful Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve.
“Washington Crossing is a special place with so much to offer and I am eager to continue building on the great things that are happening at the park and in the surrounding community," Shannon said. “I am genuinely excited for this opportunity and am honored to lead the wonderful staff and work with our amazing Friends volunteer group."
Shannon is a Phillipsburg, New Jersey, native who enjoys fishing, camping, biking, and playing disc golf. In his free time, he enjoys quality time with his wife, Suzanne, and sons, Carter, Connor, and Cole, who he credits with helping him rediscover his appreciation for the outdoors during the early COVID-19 pandemic.
Shannon holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree in in sport and recreation administration from Temple University. He began his career with DCNR in June 2021 as a park manager trainee, gaining valuable field experience at Neshaminy, Ridley Creek, and Nockamixon state parks and in the western region state parks office.
