Harrisburg, PA – Today, Secretary of Health Karen Murphy announced that the Department of Health has selected MJ Freeway to implement the seed-to-sale electronic tracking system for Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana Program.
“This is an important step forward in ensuring that we can get medical marijuana to patients who desperately need it,” Secretary Murphy said. “This contract serves two important functions for the program: tracking medical marijuana from seed-to-sale; and creating a registry for patients, caregivers, and practitioners to participate in the program.”
The seed-to-sale electronic tracking system will track medical marijuana from the planting of a seed until the plant is processed, sold to a dispensary, and then dispensed to a patient or caregiver. This system allows growers/processors and dispensaries to track inventory and the amounts of medical marijuana dispensed, as well as monitor the prices paid by patients and caregivers for medical marijuana products.
The seed-to-sale electronic tracking system also contains unique registries that will offer patients, caregivers, and practitioners the opportunity to electronically register with the Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Program and access valuable information about the use and benefits of medical marijuana.
The Medical Marijuana Program was signed into law by Governor Tom Wolf on April 17, 2016. Since that time, the department has:
- Completed the Safe Harbor temporary guidelines and Safe Harbor Letter application process, as well as approved 226 applications;
- Completed temporary regulations for growers/processors, dispensaries and laboratories which have been published in the Pennsylvania Bulletin;
- Released Phase 1 permit applications for grower/processors and dispensaries;
- Developed the Medical Marijuana Physician Workgroup; and
- Drafted temporary regulations for practitioners to participate in the program.
The Medical Marijuana Program became effective on May 17, 2016, and is expected to be fully implemented in early 2018. The program will offer medical marijuana to patients who are residents of Pennsylvania and under a physician’s care for the treatment of a serious medical condition as defined by Act 16.
MJ Freeway is a woman-owned business that provides software solutions for medical marijuana programs, including seed-to-sale tracking. It currently serves clients in all regulated U.S. states, Canada, Spain and Australia.
