To start coverage on January 1, 2025, Pennsylvanians must enroll by December 15, 2024
Harrisburg, PA – With the Shapiro Administration committed to cutting costs and delivering results for Pennsylvanians, the Pennsylvania Insurance Department (PID), Department of Human Services (DHS), and Pennie joined together today to remind Pennsylvanians that Pennie's Open Enrollment period is underway, offering affordable health insurance options for 2025.
"This Open Enrollment period is the best time to explore available options and shop around to find a plan — even if you already have insurance. Quality, comprehensive health care coverage has never been more affordable, or more within reach for Pennsylvanians," said Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Michael Humphreys. "PID's focus on increasing Marketplace competition has delivered more choices and greater affordability for consumers across the Commonwealth."
Pennie's Open Enrollment period is a crucial time for Pennsylvanians to secure affordable, high-quality health coverage beginning in 2025. Nine out of 10 Pennie customers qualify for financial savings in the form of tax credits to help reduce monthly payments and out of pocket costs. All health plans offered through Pennie cover essential services like hospital care, mental health support, prescriptions, maternity care, and more.
“We encourage anyone without coverage to join over 430,000 Pennsylvanians who have secured health insurance through Pennie," said Pennie Executive Director Devon Trolley. “You can find everything you need at pennie.com to gain peace of mind with quality health insurance. If you wait until you need medical care, it will be too late. Health coverage helps protect you from unexpected medical costs and provides access to preventive services to address health concerns early."
To start coverage on January 1, 2025, Pennsylvanians must enroll by December 15, 2024. Current Pennie enrollees should review their options, as plans and prices change annually, and update their family size, income, and contact details to ensure the best plan match.
“All Pennsylvanians deserve the dignity and peace of mind in knowing they can access high-quality, affordable, local health care where and when they need it. DHS wants to make sure people maintain their health coverage regardless of whether it comes from Medicaid or a Pennie plan," said Department of Human Services Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh. “If you receive your health care through the state or know someone who does, please make sure they complete their annual renewal on time, so they don't risk a gap or loss in coverage. If you no longer qualify for Medicaid, Pennie can help you find a high-quality, affordable health plan."
Pennie partners with Pennsylvania's Medicaid program and picks up where Medicaid leaves off. Pennsylvanians who no longer qualify for Medicaid because of positive changes in income can see large savings on private health plans through Pennie. Anyone who is no longer eligible for Medicaid and still needs coverage should consider their options during Open Enrollment.
The high-quality plans sold through Pennie are guaranteed to have important benefits. Pennie makes sure health plans will financially protect Pennsylvanians in the case of injury or illness and provide access to a wide range of medical care, including care for pre-existing conditions, free preventive services, hospitalization, prescription drugs, maternity care, mental health services, and much more.
