King of Prussia, PA – Eastbound and westbound U.S. 422 motorists will encounter left lane closures between the Route 363 (Trooper Road) and Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) interchanges in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, from 10:00 PM Friday, June 8, to 1:00 PM Saturday, June 9, so crews can establish a new westbound traffic pattern for staged construction to resurface mainline U.S. 422, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
During the operation, the eastbound and westbound ramps at Route 363 (Trooper Road) will remain open to traffic. The ramp from Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) to westbound U.S. 422 will also stay open, however there will be periodic 15-minute traffic stoppages sometime between 10:00 PM Friday, June 8, and 1:00 PM Saturday, June 9.
In addition to the travel restrictions this weekend, overnight single lane closures are planned on westbound U.S. 422 between the Route 363 (Trooper Road) and U.S. 202 interchanges on Sunday, June 10, through Thursday, June 14, from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning for median construction.
Drivers should allow additional time for travel in the construction zones because backups and delays will occur. The contractor’s schedule is weather dependent.
The work is part of a project to build new, wider bridges to improve travel and carry U.S. 422 motorists over the Schuylkill River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and Schuylkill River Trail in West Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence townships.
The scope of work includes improving U.S. 422 between the Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Route 363 (Trooper Road) interchanges; upgrading Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) at its interchange with U.S. 422; and improving ramps at the Route 363 (Trooper Road), Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and First Avenue interchanges.
Construction on this improvement project began in February 2016 and is scheduled to finish in May 2020.
