June Consumer Financial Protection Events Announced

Harrisburg, PA - Education and outreach staff from the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities (DoBS) will be hosting and participating in numerous presentations for groups of senior citizens, service providers and the public throughout the month of June to promote financial capability and provide investor education.

June outreach events will be held in person, unless otherwise noted, in partnership with the listed organizations. The events are open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Events For General Audiences

Popular Scams and How to Avoid Them and Fraud Bingo – This presentation – a fun and interactive game that teaches consumers how to protect themselves from investment fraud by playing BINGO and avoid scams – will be held at the Loyalsock Township Fire Hall at 715 Northway Road in Williamsport (Lycoming County) on June 2 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Popular Scams and How to Avoid Them – A presentation that discusses how to avoid falling victim to the newest and most advanced scams – will be offered at the following locations:

Cybersecurity – Keeping Yourself Safe Online - This presentation – covering topics like using secure websites, avoiding internet-based investment scams, creating strong passwords, and being aware of what you put on social media – will be offered at the PA CareerLink at 1046 Manheim Pike in Lancaster (Lancaster County) on June 28 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Monroe County Elder Justice Day – The Department will be participating and presenting at the Gayle and Frances Hughes Cancer Center – Tranquility Room at 181 E Brown Street in East Stroudsburg (Monroe County) on June 13 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Elder Investment Fraud and Financial Exploitation Prevention Program (EIFFE) – This research-based program that educates professionals who routinely work with older Pennsylvanians to recognize when their older clients may be vulnerable to or victims of financial abuse, particularly those with mild cognitive impairment – will be presented at the Sand Springs Golf Club at 10 Clubhouse Drive in Drums (Luzerne County) on June 14 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Hiring an Investment Professional – This virtual presentation – discussing how to find an investment professional, know the difference between a fiduciary and non-fiduciary, and make sure your professional is properly registered – will be offered to employees of the Public Utility Commission on June 22 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Open to PUC Employees Only.
