HARRISBURG, PA - The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners will meet as scheduled on Friday, Jan. 28 and Saturday, Jan. 29, and there still will be an opportunity for the public to offer comments to the board.
But the board will not be able to conduct any official business due to lack of a quorum.
That means the Friday, Jan. 28 meeting, to begin at 1 p.m. at the Game Commission’s Harrisburg headquarters, will include staff reports and award presentations. Public comment will be taken at the Saturday, Jan. 29 meeting, which also will be held at the Harrisburg headquarters and starts at 8:30 a.m.
The board won’t pick up its prepared agenda until at least one of three vacant commissioner seats is filled, bringing the eight-member board to a quorum.
The Game Commission is required by law to hold a meeting in January, explained Executive Director Bryan Burhans, and will fulfill this requirement while waiting for a quorum of commissioners to be present.
If no quorum is established in time to adopt the seasons and bag limits for the 2022-23 license year, by law, the season and bag limits that were adopted for 2021-22 will again take effect, with an adjustment for the change in calendar dates. For instance, the firearms deer season again would open the Saturday after Thanksgiving, which falls on Nov. 26, 2022, after falling on Nov. 27, 2021.
Further news on the appointment of additional commissioners and upcoming meetings will be shared as it develops.
As for this week’s meetings, the public is welcome to attend, and those who can’t attend can watch a livestream of the Friday meeting on the Game Commission’s YouTube channel.
The Game Commission’s headquarters is located at 2001 Elmerton Ave., just off the Progress Avenue exit off Interstate 81 in Harrisburg, Dauphin County.
Those wishing to deliver public comment – limited to five minutes – at the Saturday, Jan. 29 meeting may register beginning at 7:45 a.m. Comments are accepted on a first-to-register, first-to-speak basis. PowerPoint presentations are not permitted during public comment periods.
