HARRISBURG, Pa. (Feb. 8) – The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) announced today that it will hold a public meeting on Monday, February 26, at Mifflinburg Area High School in Union County to present an update on the fishery and future management of Section 05 of Penns Creek.
The meeting will be held from 6:30 – 8 p.m. in the cafeteria of the school, located at 75 Market St, Mifflinburg, PA 17844. The meeting is free and the public is invited to attend.
Section 05 is approximately 4.6 miles long. It begins 1/3 of a mile downstream of Cherry Run and continues to Weikert. (See map.)
Staff will present results from 2017 fishery surveys and discuss the future management of Section 05, including angling regulations.
“Penns Creek is one of the most popular trout fisheries in the Commonwealth,” said Jason Detar, PFBC Area 3 Fisheries Manager. “Thanks to its limestone geology and numerous springs and cold tributaries, a substantial portion of Penns Creek supports Class A wild brown trout populations, which is remarkable given its large size. Only two percent of Pennsylvania streams qualify for Class A designation, which further outlines the uniqueness and high quality of Penns Creek’s wild brown trout fishery.”
Portions of Penns Creek are also stocked with trout and trout stocking will also be discussed at the meeting.
